A:
The door you are talking about, I think, is 3 inches "thick". Remember you have a 450 lb weight limit to deal with. The trolly doesnt have to be on center with the door but it may hang away from the short side. If the door is very heavy, say, over 200 lbs, it may cause some stress on the tab but the trolly will swivel and wont be stressed. My outside barn doors are 2 1/2 inches with the sheathing installed and two of these trollys (one set) slide a 12 foot wide, 14 foot tall door with no problem, since 1985.A:
The plate that holds the door is 5 inches long. For help with installation please contact Stanley at Phone: 1-800-346-9445Q:

There is a reason this is the standard barn door trolly. Its functional, strong, and it works as
its supposed to. Saves a bunch by buying on line even with the shipping.

We purchased these hangers and the rest of the parts to construct a hanging door for our newly built woodshed. This is an exceptional product in every way. After we finished the door I couldn't help sliding it back and forth several times... ...it works and looks great just like we wanted it too.
